Frequently Asked Questions

Clean Slate Counseling and Coaching offers life coaching and referrals.

Life Coaching

Life coaching focuses on the here and now. We start with where you are now and what you want – and work together to create that new life vision. In life coaching, we start with the assumption that you are whole and complete – and that you have within you all the answers – even if you may not feel like it at the moment. The life coaching work is to uncover those answers together. There’s a partnership (as coach and client) – a back and forth with deep listening, reflecting and gentle-nudging. I look for (and always find!) the best in you by asking questions to help you discover your own truth.

Referral Services

Here at Clean Slate, my desire is to assist you in finding and accessing resources that will help you and your family lead happy, healthy, and fulfilling lives. If you and I together, as a team, determine that you and your family need additional resources beyond what I can provide, I will work with you to ensure that you are connected with the appropriate services. Services commonly referred to include occupational therapy, psychological testing, and medication evaluations.

Working with a life coach empowers you to create and step into the life you’ve only dreamed of!

What can we discuss? Anything that is on your heart and mind! Frequent topics include, but are not limited to issues around:

  • romantic relationships
  • career
  • weight loss/body image
  • anxiety
  • family relationships
  • money
  • setting boundaries
  • setting goals
  • self-image
  • self-confidence
  • creating healthy habits
  • time management

  • An individual who realizes they need more from life yet not certain how to get it.

  • An individual facing or going through a particular challenge or change.

  • An individual who wishes to work or perform more productively and effectively.

  • An individual who is beginning or managing a business and requires a confidential guide to help focus on other priorities.

  • An individual who feels stuck and needs to find a way through.

  • An individual who needs to accomplish an objective and has been battling with it all alone.

Therapy

  • Clients have specific complaints or symptoms, a deficiency in functioning, or overwhelming reactions to certain stressors or relationship distress. Clients may or may not have a clear explanation for the causes of dysfunction.
  • First goal is to determine diagnosis and necessary treatment, possibly including medication.
  • Process evolves over the course of several weeks, months or years; research indicates most people get the biggest bang for the buck in the first 20 sessions. Sessions are 45 to 60 minutes.
  • Sessions are ideally once a week initially.
  • Significant attention is paid to the distant past where earliest life lessons were acquired, and those lessons or emotional injuries are related to present maladaptive thought and action.
  • Attempts are made to put the past in perspective and to introduce new perspectives that facilitate growth and mental health.
  • Therapists work under a license by the state, and psychological services may be supported by insurance coverage.
  • Therapy services are available to clients residing in Florida and Texas.

Coaching

  • Clients have a specific goal, aspiration, or desire; it works best when an individual knows what he or she wants to achieve; life is fine overall but there is a desire for more fulfillment.
  • Diagnosis is irrelevant. Ideas for desired support are largely generated by the client.
  • Process is laser-focused on the present and future; progress is expected to happen rapidly through a lengthy coaching relationship as long as progress toward the goal(s) is demonstrably occurring.
  • Sessions are usually via telephone or video and may be as brief as 30 minutes; hence clients may be worldwide.
  • No attention is paid to the past, early life lessons, or improvement in mental health; client is expected to be mentally healthy and any observations to the contrary necessitate mental health services.
  • Coaching is not a licensed field and is not supported by insurance coverage
  • Coaching should never be considered a substitute for therapy.

No. Currently, all services are offered virtually via video and telephone.
